It’s about 10 minutes before he’s supposed to arrive and instead of anticipating the evening, I’m nauseous. My palms are sweaty, I’ve stared at myself in the mirror so long my eyes are beginning to cross and I’m actually planning who to use as my scapegoat in case things go wrong. This is typical behavior for me when it comes to the first date. Sure some call it the jitters, others may call me delirious, but when you live in LA dating can be stressful.

There are roughly 89,000 more single men in Los Angeles than women. With that many more eligible bachelors, a girl should feel like a kid in a candy store. However, just like all of the restaurant and entertainment options this city serves up, it also offers various types worth avoiding; and on those occasions when I give someone a chance and decide to try a formal date, my mind runs wild of what sort of person I’ll actually be getting to know.

Someone once told me that Los Angeles was loaded with “pockets of cool”; this is undoubtedly true, but here are four guys that may make it past Date One, but should definitely never enter any girls’ “cool” zone.

Mr. Pretentious – He’s the guy every girl thinks they want from afar. He looks confident and carefree and all you could think is, he may actually be cooler than me. He teases you and compliments you, but rejects social norms and mentions his Rolex, BMW or Limited Edition lime green Chad Muska’s any chance he gets. He’s old enough to act like an adult, but somehow that slid right past him. He has more feminine qualities and lower self-esteem than Ellen Page’s character in 2007’s The Tracey Fragments. Don’t let this guy fool you, he’ll never shut up about his material possessions and he will emotionally drain you during your role as his mother.

The Gift Giver – This one is really tricky. He’s the guy who shows up with a gift every time he sees you. Sounds amazing, right? No! Erase that idea from your head. He’ll use gifts to mask his horrible personality and plant little seeds of guilt when you want to break it off with the gorgeous Peonies bouquet and shining cutlery he brought over last week. Again, this one lacks self-esteem and the understanding that you need more than a wallet to impress a real woman.

The Party Boy – The one you hate to love. You met him at a bar and you hit it off instantly, you laugh and never want the night to end. The next day when your friends ask about him, you dodge all the obvious signs that he’s not right for you by reiterating over and over that, “he’s really fun”. Unless you’re just looking for a good time, run the opposite direction. Don’t mistake his goofy, laid back, no-long-term-goal-self as a promising specimen you can mold. We can’t change men, so why waste your time trying.

The Push Over – Every girl likes a challenge, so it’s no wonder that a few dates with this guy and every single lady in the country wants to throw him to the side. He’ll do whatever you want. He’ll take your abuse. He’ll dance when you say dance. He’ll always be available and he willingly gives up all interactions with his friends. Sure he’ll be your best friend, your shopping buddy and your punching bag, but who wants a man who isn’t manly?

A great fill in between cut and color visits with your stylist and a fantastic way to put you into Supermodel gear, just before your Date-Night. "And Away They Go..."

Maybe it's the excitement. Maybe it's the roar of the crowd. Maybe it's the mountains standing tall over the track as my #4 Horse hits the daily double, but I find Horse Racing at Santa Anita Race Track to be incredibly romantic. While for the most part, Horse Racing Tracks are anything but glamorous, Santa Anita stands out from the crowd with it's rich history, impeccably maintained park and it's amazing view. There are quite a few options when it comes to taking in the track, depending on your wallet and if you want to stop by for a few races and a hot dog or take in racing as only a big shot can. If you're dressed a bit on the casual side, I would recommend saddling up to your date and sliding past General Admission into the Club House. Guests of the Club House enjoy great views of the track's first turn, complete wagering services and access to the Box Seat area and dining overlooking the track. Although a few bucks more than General Admission, it is a few pounds well spent. Grab a hot dog, slide into the dining area and place your bets. Now if your trying to make an impression, I've got just the thing.

Purchase your Club House tickets and head for the 5th floor restaurant. The dress code tends to be a bit more formal in the restaurant so be prepared. It is recommended you make reservations ahead of time so call ahead to (626) 574-6366 and ask to be connected to the Fifth Floor Restaurant. If your not quite the planner, a well dressed smile with a generous tip ought to see you past the Maitre' D. Ask to sit along the railing and be prepared for a view that will truly take your breath away. Sip on a lovely glass of champagne, nibble on gorgeous treats and wager your paycheck in style.

Lastly for those that want to make an event out of your date, there is the Turf Club. Up until a few years ago, admission into the coveted Turf Club was strictly by membership only. Considerably more than General Admission, with only a slight increase over Club House, the Turf Club is well... The Turf Club. More formal, more glamorous and more posh than you ever imagined horse racing could be. Dine in the Turf Club with White Linen service overlooking the track all while you check your winnings on your own personal TV at your table.

So you've managed to get to the 'Next Day Breakfast' stage. Well, telephone the queen as we Brits say! However, a great breakfast isn't always the easiest to find in LA. Splash a bit of water in your face, give a kiss to your mate and stroll on over to Brighton Coffee Shop in Beverly Hills. A true coffee shop in every sense of the word... breakfast bar, friendly waitresses and food that you can count on to be consistently spot on. On the corner of Brighton Way & Camden Drive is perhaps one of the smallest dining rooms I've seen in LA that always seems to be full of eager diners looking for good coffee shop food and saving a pound to boot. Sidewalk service is quite nice and fun to people watch the 'tourists', watching back.

The oldest coffee shop in Beverly Hills, it's been around since 1934 serving traditional American food. This might be the best value in all of Beverly Hills. Breakfast, which is served all day, includes all the standards as well as a meatloaf & egg platter. Lunch is sandwiches, meatloaf, six varieties of baked potatoes and various meat dishes.

Few things in life are more sensual than food -- other than actual sex, of course. Food involves all five senses, as well as your hands and mouth, which is pretty much a recipe for getting all hot and bothered as far as I'm concerned. The acts of cooking and eating are the perfect excuse to get close to someone else, to lick something off a significant other's spoon, to place a tender morsel on their tongue, to share something spicy or something sweet -- few things make for better foreplay than that. At least not foreplay you can get away with in public.

Lucky for us, Los Angeles provides plenty of opportunities to feed your appetite for food, and for the aforementioned foodie foreplay, of course. And, the best part is, there are a lot of delicious -- even decadent -- date destinations that don't cost decadent dinner dollars.

The best place to start for some culinary courtship is, of course, the Farmer's Market. What's sexier than sharing a bite of a juicy sample strawberry or feeding each other the fiery freshness of a picante pepper. It's hard to top the Farmer's Market when it comes to perfect daytime dates -- it's cheap, sustainable and perfect for people watching and conversation catalyzing. How can the conversation not flow freely when food is involved?

In my opinion, the best Farmer's Market for romantic roaming is definitely the Sunday morning Hollywood Farmer's Market at Sunset & Ivar. With tasty treats ranging from tongue-tickling tamales to cool coconut milk, there's something to please every palate. I especially recommend the goat cheese lady who always sets up in the middle aisle of the market -- her jalapeno goat cheese is a spicy, sensuous treat that's perfectly engineered to be lustily licked off the spoon of your significant other.
If you're looking for more of a meal, check out the newly-opened Farmer's Kitchen, where skilled chefs whip up delectable sustainable fare right from the Farmer's Market while also providing hands-on culinary training and nutritional education to the area's low-income locals. Last time I was there, my brunch of a fresh fritatta, savory spinach and sausage, perfectly prepared polenta, mouthwatering melted cheese sauce and fresh squeezed orange juice only cost around $10 -- less than what you'd pay for parking at plenty of places in the area.

If you're looking for something slightly more adventurous than the airy aisles at your local farmer's market, why not embark on a food-finding mission and take your date on a trip to track down one of LA's notorious twittering trucks of traveling tastiness. Anyone with Twitter (or a newspaper subscription) in the LA area has probably heard of Kogi's Korean Barbecue -- the Mexicasian fusian mobile that delivers delicious tacos with a tasty twist to Tweeps all over LA, who follow @kogibbq to find out where the palate pleaser will be parked every night.

If the fusian of flavors found in a Korean barbecue taco isn't quite exotic enough to thrill your date, try tracking down @ Dosatruck instead. It's a relatively new addition to the mobile munchies scene that offers the crispy crepes of its name sake, amongst other savory South Indian treats. And if you still find yourself fiending for fuel-fired fusion food, why not add @LomoArigato and @FishLips_Sushi to your roaming romantic repertoire for Japenese Peruvian fusion and fresh fish, respectively. All you need for a perfect culinary quest of a date is a car and a mobile device that gets Twitter. Simply crank up the tunes, roll down the windows and find your way to the finest food on four wheels. Call it a foodventure, and get bonus points from your beaux for creativity and cutesiness.

Just don't expect me to let you cut in line when it comes to those Korean barbecue tacos -- I don't care how adorable you and your date are, you ain't gettin' between me and my one true love.

There are few things more prevalent than Mexican food on the LA culinary scene -- except for maybe actors turned waiters who serve it. With options that run the gamut from tongue tacos served by trucks to high end fare created by culinary giants in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles offers more options for Mexican dining than the salsa bar at your favorite Baja Fresh. Of course, with so many restaurants to choose from, how does an enterprising suitor choose the best place to take a date? Simple. Think salsa.

If you're rolling in green, a la salsa verde, you can afford to go to the high end huevos and horchatas. Which means you should go directly to Frida in Beverly Hills. Do not pass go, but do collect $200, since you might need it to pay the bill. Recession aside, Frida is a fantastic date choice, with its soft lighting, bright colors and vibrant art-adorned walls giving you and your date plenty to chat about -- if, of course, the margaritas don't take care of that for you. The food is great, with beloved Mexican classics getting the requisite Beverly Hills facelift via the addition of some seriously high end touches. From pumpkin mole to salty ceviche, Frida is truly a treat for the eyes and the stomach -- if not the wallet.

If you're more into the chunky home-style salsas, then I've got one word for you: Loteria. Well, actually three words: Loteria Grill Hollywood. Sure, you could go a little more upscale and hit the one at The Grove Farmer's Market, but in my humble I-grew-up-in-LA-and-I-know-my-damn-tacos opinion, the Hollywood outpost of this Angeleno standby is where it's at. And by it, I mean the most amazing tacos, salsas, burritos and jalapeno margaritas (yes, jalapeno margaritas) this side of the taco truck. And the best part for us amorous Angelenos? It's one of the few restaurants in its part of Hollywood where you can walk right in, sandals a'blazin' and not be stopped or scorned by a burly doorman. Which makes it that much easier to clean up the tomatillo sauce you'll eventually end up spilling during the requisite foodgasm you're guaranteed at Loteria. Oh, and I've heard that whole 'honey, you can wear your basketball shorts and Rainbows to dinner' thing really gets a guy going.Of course, some people just want the classic -- spicy, savory, medium-heat salsa. Just exotic enough to tickle the tastebuds, but not too far fetched for a gringo to get their head around. That's where restaurants like El Compadre in Hollywood and Coral Beach Cantina in Malibu come in.
El Compadre's got flaming margaritas, massive take-it-to-work-for-lunch-the-next-day portions and a mariachi band to complement the whole Disneyfied "Desperado" thing it's got going on. The food is good, solid, stick to your ribs Mexicalifornian and the service is always more than solid. Just make sure you don't go on an empty stomach during peak dining hours, or you'll end up waiting at the bar while your date gives you the stink eye. Coral Beach Cantina in Malibu, on the other hand, is always worth the wait. With its lantern-lit patio and close proximity to a post-dinner walk on the beach, it's a great date option if you don't mind the drive. It also happens to be the home of the first word I ever read by myself -- 'burrito.' Even at age 3, I knew what I wanted at Coral Beach Cantina. Make sure you also try the enchiladas, smothered in sauce and sour cream, if they don't get your date to warm up to you, you're probably better off leaving him or her on PCH and going off in search of someone who really deserves to share your salsa.

You Can't Beat The Rush

Alright girls, if mac and cheese, microbrews and buff bartenders sounds like your idea of heaven, then you need to book your next dinner date at Rush Street in Culver City. With its industrial-loft-meets-funky-flea-market-chic aesthetic and multi-tiered location in the heart of the chi chi side of Culver City, it's easy to dismiss Rush Street as just another sleek urban oasis for the post-work popped collar crowd. And, I'm not going to lie, the last few times I've been there, I have run into at least one popped collar every time. But, its brushed steel chicness belies a mind-blowing menu of updated comfort food classics that runthe gamut from luscious lamb lollipops to curried pumpkin ravioli, and of course, the aforementioned mac and cheese.

If that's not enough to lure you past the more-bark-than-bite girls at the door (who are actually sweet as pie, and have never once turned me away even when it's clear that my flip flops might be the only pair in the room), then just take a gander at the restaurant's extensive beer and liquor offerings. With a rotating selection of specialty brews on tap, a wine list that holds its own against the wine-focused Ugo across the street and bartenders that know their way around a bottle of Booker's, the bar at Rush Street is worth a visit alone.

If you can talk your way past the sentinels guarding the VIP section, I highly recommend checking out Rush Street's upstairs balcony and outdoor patio, both of which provide plenty of space to sprawl out and enjoy a plate of truffle fries or a pint of Delirium Tremens, not to mention a stripper pole tucked away in the back of the aforementioned balcony. Of course, you could also just hang out in the main restaurant area on the bottom floor, which turns into the closest thing Culver City has to a Hollywood-style see-and-be-scene club on the weekends, with DJ, dancing and all. Just make sure your date pops his collar properly first.

Okay, so LA isn't exactly always Melrose Place or 90210. But, some stereotypes about the city of angels do have their roots in truth -- preferably well dyed roots. For example, odds are good that pretty much every waiter you'll ever have in LA is also an actor/model/writer/insert dream Hollywood job here. The paparazzi really are everywhere. And, there's nary a restaurant in sight that doesn't have a low carb option on the menu.

The stereotypes come out in even more full force when going out in Hollywood. Every bar is packed to the brim with blondes, bunnies and businessmen, and everyone's running as much professional game as personal. Of course, there are places you can go to get away from the whole stereotypical scene. But, once The Dime became a haunt on The Hills, I personally started losing my faith in the future of those out of the way watering holes. Which is why as much as I love the bars, there's also something to be said for some of LA's more unexpected singles scenes -- especially if you're looking to close a date with a real guy, not a deal with a reality producer.

If you're into the witty writer types, Book Soup is the place to pick them up. With writers from Al Gore to Sarah Vowell gracing their tiny store stage for readings, the shop attracts an eclectic event crowd. Browse the stacks and the shelves, work your way through the classics and the contemporary and maybe find your way to flirting over some fiction. Nothing makes a better pickup line than "hey, have you read this?" Plus, you can always test your potential pick up by asking him what he thinks of "Twilight."

Another bookstore with big boy finding potential is the newly opened branch of Santa Monica staple Hennessey & Ingalls. This sleek shop specializes in books about fashion, photography, art, architecture and design, and they just opened up a branch in the brand new Space 15 Twenty complex in Hollywood. The books are incredibly beautiful, inspiring and compelling, and the hunky hipsters and debonair designers that frequent the place aren't bad either. Strike up a conversation over that book about Schnabel or that coffee table Taschen tome, and then casually make your way over to Snackbar for a beer.

If grappa and grape talk are more your thing, head over to Silverlake Wines, where weekly tastings provide the perfect pairing for picking up foodies and fine diners alike. Tastings range from $12 to $20 a person, and come with a flight of wines accompanied by farmhouse cheeses, fresh breads and olives, as well as plenty of valuable vino knowledge, providing you with plenty of things to talk about and enough liquor to lubricate that whole awkward first conversation.So, bust out your sexy librarian look, brush up on your blancs and your burgundies and check out one of LA's lesser-known single scenes. Or, if you really want to get adventurous, you could try to cram all three pickup possibilities into one crazy book and booze filled singledom spree. The Layar app will do the same 3D thing with even more features -- you can set favorites, see stories about what you're looking at and more. And, it works on any Android phone, as well as on the iPhone.

Augmented reality is awesome and all, but what if you just want to find a place that fits your picky preferences? Enter UrbanSpoon. This fun little app lets you set up a search by location, cuisine and cost. You can also set separate filters like popularity, no chains, distance, etc. Or, for a really fun experience, just turn it on, and shake it up. It makes a sound like a slot machine and serves up a random mix of results -- perfect for picking out an appetizing adventure. You can get it for the iPhone and Blackberry, and you can also get it on any phone via text.

So, you've shaken your phone, seen the wonderful world of augmented reality and finally picked the perfect place to take your date. Now what? Well, if you're smart, you'll bust out yourOpenTable app and start setting up some reservations. Don't have an app-friendly phone? No problem. Just hit the mobile version of the site from any phone's browser. Don't have internet on your phone? Well, what are you doing going out to eat anyway? You should be saving your money up to join the rest of us in the 21st century. The Golf Land offers a variety of deals, for instance you can rent or purchase a club for the same price of $5. Yes, allow me to repeat that you can rent or purchase a club for the same price of $5. Break me off a piece of that fuzzy math. Their golf packages start off at $6 for 80 balls before 3pm. How’s that for majestic? From 3pm – 11pm, you get 63 balls for $6. Their other specials include $12 for 160 balls, $18 for 240 and $24 for 320, however, if you’re new to the golf scene then teeing up to 80 balls for the uno time is highly recommended. How highly? Any more than 80 swings will put your hands smack dab into blister territory and there’s no scarier enemy than an angry blister. Except one thing…multiple angry blisters.

So make like Tiger and tee up on one of the three tiered levels, all offering sweeping views of the Hollywood Hills. The balls are automatically dispensed (again, oh so majestic) so there is no opportunity to “bend and snap” a la Elle Woods. Korean men who not only like to hit a golf ball, but to hit a golf ball while listening to Korean pop and rap music, as each tiered level has radios buzzing with Korea’s hottest hits. If that’s not simply majestic then I don’t know what is. So add some majesticness to your summer date night or strike it solo and see you at the Golf Land.

We British are rather fond of you Yanks. If that feeling is mutual, than you might enjoy some flavour from back home. In Los Angeles there are two English restaurants well worth a mention. For you in the valley there is the Piccadilly British Shop & Restaurant on Burbank Boulevard near Victory. Although the locale isn't exactly UK posh, it does have all the charm of the pubs back home. Some of my favourite's on the menu are the Banger's & Mash (Sausage and Mash Potato), Shepard's Pie (Mince meat covered in Mash Potato) and the Sunday Roast (Roast Beef) is always good.

For those by the water, Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica is the spot for all things British in the city. On Santa Monica Boulevard, about a block from the Ocean, is this UK oasis. A must try is the Traditional English Breakfast. With variations ranging from Queen size to King size, this breakfast sizzled in perfection has all the necessary British ingredients. Choice of fried bread or toast, 2 eggs, 2 lovely slices of bacon, 1 banger (sausage for you yanks), sauteed mushrooms, English Baked Beans, Grilled Tomatoes and Breakfast potato's - all for a very reasonable, $10.95. After the meal, both restaurants have their 'must stop by' shops next door.

If you are a sweets lover, there is no substitute for British Sweets. Reasonably priced, considering the boat ride over, are delicious treats from Cadbury's and Rowntree. From melt in the mouth chocolate's, wine gums and fruit pastilles - you cannot leave without at least one of these English goodies. Show your date your worldly, have a pint and whatever you do, don't cry out 'Cheerio!'. We don't really say that.

Alright ladies, it's date 4 and you've decided that the guy you're seeing isn't a serial killer.

It's time to stop meeting in crowded public places, and let the dude pick you up from your apartment. If things go well, you might even invite him back up for a nightcap -- or a SportsCenter recap, either way. But, before you start planning your whole 'would you like to come up' line, there are a few things you need to make sure you've got handy in that humble abode. Think of it like the dating version of baby-proofing -- instead of covering outlets, you're making sure you're covered when it comes to the necessary apartment accoutrement required to maintain that whole sassy, successful single lady thing you've been selling since date one.

First of all, there are few truisms that are...well, truer, than that whole way-to-a-man's-heart thing. We all know there are certain organs that guys tend to defer to in times of need, and one of them really is their stomach. So, a well stocked fridge is a must. I'm not saying you need to have homemade cookies and pot roast chilling on your shelves. Hell, you don't even need a real kitchen. But, you do need to have cold water, cold beer and a decent bottle of wine on hand. Depending on the type of guy you're going after, a nice bottle of whiskey couldn't hurt either. I've found that you can get a lot of bang for your buck out of Firestone Double Barrel Ale on the beer front, Barefoot Pinot Noir in the wine rack and Maker's Mark on the liquor shelf -- most guys love all three brands, and none of them will cost you more than a twenty. Have some chips and salsa in your cabinets -- if unopened, they keep forever -- and you're all set for a lovely post-date rendezvous on your couch.

While we're on the topic of booze, nothing is worse than pulling off the perfect wine purchase only to find yourself struggling with the cork while trying to maintain that whole smooth seductress vibe. So, make sure you invest in a decent wine opener and a bottle opener to boot. If you give a mouse a cookie, he'll want a glass of milk. If you give a guy enough booze, he'll probably need a cup of coffee. The easy solution to becoming your own barrista, impressing your date and saving the seven bucks you'd spend at Starbucks? My new favorite toy -- the Melitta one cup coffee brewer, which has all the cool science experiment appeal of a french press without any of the expense. All you have left to do now is hide those stuffed animals on your bed (save 'em for the fifth date), change the channel to ESPN and make sure you've got your shoe pyramid tucked away in a closet (save all hints of potential high maintenance-ness for the fifth date too). Then, it's time to find the last and possibly most important apartment accessory for us gals dating in LA -- a parking space for your man. Because nothing says 'I'm committed to seeing where this relationship goes' quite like 'I just fought that angry guy in the convertible so you would have a convenient place to put your Prius.'

For less carnivorous diners, there are also several non-steak main courses like the luscious big-eye tuna with porcini potato puree and a mushroom bordelaise. After dinner, don't forget to please your sweet tooth. Desserts are new twists on classics, like the PB&J Sundae whose ice cream scoops are, appropriately, peanut butter and jelly, topped withnutella, grape preserves and a caramelized banana.

With innovative twists that appear like clockwork but are never rushed, whether for dinner or devine drinks, your libido will be in over drive wondering what the next surprise is. Fantastic for a first date and better for the third date and beyond, you can feel welcome here for a drink or that unforgettable dinner.

HGTV would sooo approve. Mega size glowing harvest moon chandeliers fall from the ceiling and plush drapes adorn walls. Seating is sprinkled throughout the bar to allow you to kick back your heels and scope out the scene.

Tuesday nights are generally cranking as they host smashing bands, so crank and smash away with the westside’s finest. The Brig is also prime playing ground for the game of “manhunt.” On most nights its packed with about 68% fellas (please note that the percentage is dependent on scientific variables e.g. if I have consumed 68% Corono), so happy manhunting.

Generally though, the place is flooded with a feast of friendly chaps to chat up…Marina Del Rey businessmen (complete with dress socks), Manhattan Beach surfers (can I get a “yo bro”) and west side dudes (hipsters & skaters representing!). I once even saw a guy chilling at the Brig in his wetsuit. Still unsure if he was rocking the wetsuit attire to protect him from the icy Pacific or from the frothy Pacifico? Overall, a fabulously fun spot to bring your date or meet a new one! So see you at the Brig…and don’t forget to bring your wetsuit!

I'm sure you have all heard of or even been to the fabulously fabulous, Geisha House in Hollywood. For those that haven't or haven't a clue what Geisha House is, remove yourself from under the rock you have been under and get ready to tantalizeyour senses. While most sushi restaurants tend to ignore or hide from Japan's rich sexual history...Geisha House embraces it. A feast for the eyes, the soul and of course, your taste buds. Brought to you by the famed Dolce Group comes this sensual hot spot that has both the stars and those who set the trend for the stars, in a Japanese tizzy.

Many find our events at Geisha House a lovely opportunity to bypass the front desk, any Hollywood attitude and enjoy the best the venue has to offer and oh yeah... find love while their at it. We consider ourselves quite fortunate to be invited to Geisha House to host our events and truly can not say enough wonderful things... but I'll try anyway.

Starting downstairs you enter through a red-painted wood hallway, arriving at a full-length mirror--a not-so-subtle hint at the see-and-be-seen posing to come. Inside, the prominent main bar's white-grid-enclosed plasma screens are a focal point from every vantage point. Further back, a three-tiered fireplace anchors the main dining room, which is lined with kimono-like swatches and a twig-enclosed private booth. My personal favorite part of the restaurant is upstairs in the Moon Room. Dreamy in the summer months and wintertime chic, relaxing under the heaters, the rest of the year. Although considering it's always LA summertime, I think you'll find it equally stunning any time of year.

I typically like to mention a few of my menu favorites, but quite honestly I can't pick a favorite. Their sushi is always in top form, their entree's as good as you would expect and the drinks... ahh... the drinks... are always just what the doctor ordered. The Shikomi cocktail is like a decadent spa beverage, with sake, midori, lemon and cucumber. Too many of those, and I assure you, the reflection in the above mentioned mirror will be quite different.
The valet can be a bit pricey on busy nights--save a few dollars by using the lot directly across the street on Cherokee.

We at SpeedLA Dating take great pride in providing our clients with the absolute, hottest venues in town. One such hot spot is the newly opened Ivan Kane's Cafe Wa s on Vine & Sunset. Now before you cry bad grammar on the name, Cafe Wa s is cleverly named after the sign in front, which would read 'Always Open' if some of the lights weren't burned out. Cafe Wa s strikes a balance between whimsy and logic, theatrical in spirit, at once chic and yet bohemian, located in the heart of Hollywood. Ivan Kane, the legend behind 'Forty Deuce' at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, ups the ante and brings fine dining to an entirely new level.

This bi-level supper club boasts a grand piano in the middle, three bars, mini lounge areas upstairs, and a large patio. The ambiance is both comfortable and awe-inspiring. Few restaurants have personality... And Ivan Kane's Cafe Wa s has a personality you can't get enough of. From the Staircase to nowhere, the rotating piano, to the feeling of being invited to someones mansion, albeit, someone slightly off his or her rocker, this is the ultimate first date spot. If the date is going well, than the atmosphere is intoxicating. If the date is going badly, one can take the time to figure out 'where exactly does that stairwell go to?'

One important aspect and in these times, incredibly important, is the fact that you get to be taken to a place out of this world...without breaking your bank. Cafe Wa s is a French Bistro with a very reasonable menu. I especially love the canapes. At $3-5 each... one can order to impress. Each is just a few bites and each makes you want another. The Tuna Tartare canape is my personal favorite.

On the Entree front, the Steak Frites at $27, is a organic premium cut of the day with Cafe Wa s signature fries. If you are feeling especially flush, then the Filet au Poivre at $34 is a must have. If you have blown all your money on the dreamy canapes, then the Bistro Burger at $15 is a delight with sirloin, prosciutto and those 'Can't get enough' Cafe Wa s fries.

We typically don't boast about our fabulous venues in our blog as to not gloat too much, but then again, Cafe Wa s is anything but typical.

Victoria's Secret...On the first date?!?!

Most of us associate Victoria’s Secret apparel with something we’d wear on the third date. You know, something black or pink (or PINK) and lacy or sheer – something sexy. Before writing this blog post, I knew from stealing my roommate’s Victoria’s Secret catalogue that the company also sells clothing. But the website blew me away! The top of the homepage includes links to bras and panties (we knew that), sleepwear and lounge attire, clothing, shoes, swim, beauty, sales and specials, and PINK wear. This is a Victoria’s Secret like I’ve never seen it – I had no idea that they had so much inventory and selection!

The homepage and website as a whole is easy to navigate and set against a crisp, clean white background. The space on the page is well-designed and aesthetically pleasing. The homepage features sales, specials, and news, such as swimwear sales, free bonuses with purchase, and fall fashion previews. The bottom of the page includes a variety of relevant and helpful links, including “Check Order Status”, “Customer Service”, “Request a Catalogue”, “Find a Store Near You”, and “Angel Card”. The homepage itself matches the brand, and successfully straddles the line between sexy and pragmatic.

With Victoria’s Secret offering more than just third-date apparel, I wanted to find out what my user experience on the site and product variety would be if I wanted to find a cute top for a first or second date. I clicked on “clothing”, and was directed to a new page in which “Tops & Tees $14 & Up” was featured most prominently. In a sidebar, items were grouped into categories: Sexy Steals, Features, Destination Summer, Dresses, Tops & Tees, Shirts & Blouses, Sweaters, Pants, Yoga & Loungewear, Shorts, Denim, Skirts, Suit Separates, Jackets & Coats, and Handbags & Accessories. The sidebar remained present on each page of Women’s Clothing.

I followed the “Tops & Tees” link, clicked on a babydoll tee, and used a size chart to determine the correct size for me. After that, I selected one of the many available colors, as well as the quantity, and added the shirt to my bag (adding to a wishlist was also an option). Following the add, I was given a suggested list of items “we think you’ll also love”.

All in all, I really enjoyed the Victoria’s Secret site. Its design was organic, well organized, easy to navigate, and subtly sexy throughout. I was impressed by the wide variety of merchandise (fifteen pages of tops & tees, and over twenty new styles of denim!). I believe it would be fun, easy, and overall enjoyable to select a first or second date outfit using the site, not to mention an outfit for the beach, a night out on the town, the perfect pumps, or a lip gloss for the perfect pout. We’ve all been there. That magic moment when the candles are flickering, the music is tinkling, the perfume is wafting and you’re gazing into your date’s eyes, daydreaming about the future. Or, more specifically, daydreaming about all the terrific Tivo you could be taking in if you could just make your escape.

Nothing is worse than getting stuck on a bad first date. Especially if you’re stuck making small talk through three courses of awkward. That’s why I always opt for first dates with an easy out and a set time limit. Activities like coffee and cocktails certainly provide the perfect opportunity to suss someone out without committing to multiple courses. But, the downside to the whole drink-as-date plan is that it’s a pretty obvious ploy. That’s why I’ve found something even better -- frozen yogurt.

With fro-yo shops popping up on every corner, the tasty treat is totally the new Starbucks, especially when it comes to dating. Frozen yogurt gives you the same grab-and-go benefits that meeting for coffee or cocktails does, but it also provides both a tasty topic (toppings, anyone?) and an excuse to indulge your inner child. Both of which can come in handy to cool you down when you’re stuck in the pressure cooker that is a first date.

Lucky for you, LA just happens to be fro-yo mecca, with shops of all sorts showing up all over the city like, well, Starbucks. So, without further ado, here are my picks for the best places to treat your first date to a little frozen fun.

Cantaloop Yogurt (7095 Hollywood Blvd) is a sweet self-serve yogurt bar, where you can fill up your cup with flavors ranging from birthday cake to dairy-free pomegranate, pick and pour your own toppings and enjoy the whole thing on a gorgeous walled-in patio. And, if you get bored discussing your date’s decision to combine gummy bears and cookie dough, there’s a well-stocked magazine rack full of cool catalogues to keep you occupied. So, even if you don’t agree on toppings, you can always find out you share the same taste in Crate & Barrel.

If your date is more into pumping iron than piling on the cookie dough, you might want to try Ce Fiore (http://www.cefiore.com/index.php). This franchise has creamy, calorie-conscious combos like their Golden Cherry flavor, which combines acerola cherries and blood oranges to create something that’s sweet, tangy and a little tart – which is exactly what a good first date should taste like. They have locations all over the place, but be warned that the ones I’ve been to are big on the bright colors and bumping bass, so if you’re looking to actually converse with your date, you might want to plan to savor your sweet treat while you stroll somewhere.

While Cantaloop and Ce Fiore are my personal favorites, no discussion of fro-yo in our fine city would be complete without mentioning PinkBerry. Which is, of course, a universal fave for a reason. Personally, I’m a fan of the green tea yogurt with cocoa pebbles and the location at the intersection of Sunset and Fuller, which has some of the best people watching around.

So there you have it, my take on the coolest new craze in quickie dating, the fro-yo first date. Of course, sharing my fave frozen yogurt joints was the easy part. If you can get me to actually share a spoonful of whatever combo happens to be in my cardboard cup, then you know you might just be on track for a second date.

If you seek yuppie, then Audi your way on over to Manhattan Beach, a yuppie hotbed. Manhattan Beach breeds its own unique brand of yuppie, think 80s Gordon Gekko with a splash of surfer mentality. "Greed is good....bro." Greek is also good...bro, so if you're swooning a new yuppie, give her that champagne on the beach treatment and whisk her away to Petros Greek Cuisine and Lounge (451 Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Manhattan Beach). Petros is an incredibly inviting and intimate atmosphere; one feels as though he's wafting through his own Greek Villa as opposed to a fussy, conventional establishment. Cozy up to a table in the refined indoor area or on the romantic outdoor patio. Either way, total high class, zero sass ambiance. Note that the austere interior complements the explosive food.

The extensive menu features all of your favorites (pizza, pasta, chicken) yet in delectable authentic Greek form (translation: add a smorgasbord of eggplant, feta cheese and olives...gotta get that boom boom Greek). In today's trying economy, even yuppies have to pinch pennies (in yuppie speak: "pinch Porsches") so no need to bring your big fat Greek wallet. Instead, relax at the bar and order a couple of Espresso Vittis and give the Nikos Saganaki a whirl. What a whirl it will be - feta cheese coated with sesame seeds and sprinkled with honey. Despite sounding like exotic bird food, its divine human food and after just one taste not a morsel of Nikos Saganaki shall be spared..or often times shared! Mama mia!

Post-Nikos Saganaki devouring spree, saunter 15 feet across from Petros patio (when prowling for yuppies, always be in saunter mode) to Sashi Sushi and Sake Lounge (try saying that three Espresso Vittis fast) at 451 Manhattan Beach Boulevard in Manhattan Beach. There couldn't be a sharper contrast between the humming, classic Petros and the buzzing, vibrant Sashi. While both are glamorous, Petros draws an elegant Yale-esque yuppie while Sashi welcomes an exuberant USC-ish yuppie. Further, Petros is more first date whereas Sashi is more first bait. Be prepared to get charmed over BMW 3 series small talk as single yuppies of all ages ready to bite line the walls of this scintillating Asian-inspired restaurant/lounge. It boasts a dynamic sushi menu and heavenly drinks. At Sashi, one absolutely must partake in the the drink de yuppie, which is the mint mojito. It tastes as though you're drinking gummy bears. Gimme gimme more (gummy!) So saddle up in your six cylinder and enjoy yuppiedom.

A twinkling canopy of lights, twining vines and flowers create a romantic courtyard setting quite unlike any other. On Burton Way just east of Doheny lies this country cottage where you can enjoy dining under the stars in the breath-taking front patio, the fountain garden with its retractable glass roof or by the wonderfully cozy fireplace.

So it's time for something for him. Well ladies, we knew this would happen eventually. I've got a great spot sure to tickle the car bone in even the toughest of guys. I offer you, The Peterson Automotive Museum on Wilshire in Los Angeles.

Covering four floors, the facility features permanent exhibits on the first floor that trace the history of the automobile. Visitors are invited to walk through, not by, exhibits and dioramas and experience settings of early Los Angeles where the world’s first shopping district was designed. The second floor presents five rotating galleries with state-of-the-art displays of racecars, classic cars, vintage motorcycles, concept cars, celebrity and movie cars, and auto design and technology.
The May Family Discovery Center is located on the third floor. Designed to spark interest in science by way of the automobile, the 6,500 square-foot, interactive “hands-on” learning center teaches children basic scientific principles by explaining the fundamental functions of a car. Like scenes in a romantic comedy, children's area in museums can create some of the sweetest date moments in any relationhip. Have fun, see how you look in Vivien Leigh's convertible and most of all... nod a lot. Men seem to like that.

In the 90s, Los Angeles was a gangster’s paradise. Today, it’s a hipster’s paradise. A reported two in four people are hipsters…an alarming statistic as the hipster pandemic is only intensifying, especially acute in LA’s eastside neighborhoods. Turn your swagger on? Sorry, Soulja Boy – time to turn your hipster on.

Looking for Mister or Mademoiselle Hipster in all the wrong places? First, you must identify which degree of hipsterness you are seeking in that special someone. Let us explore the aesthetic hipster, the Euro hipster and the everyman’s hipster.

Some ladies like a man in uniform, others like a man in eyeliner. If you are the latter, look no further than “Beauty Bar”, located in the eclectic Cahuenga Corridor neighborhood of Hollywood (1638 N. Cahuenga Boulevard, Los Angeles). Welcome to the aesthetic hipster jungle. As soon as you enter the Bar, you’re not sure if you’re in an actual bar or in the Breakfast Club. The décor screams 80s while the crowd screams mgmt’s “KIDS.” You’re engulfed by a tsunami of plaid scarves, neon tights and yellow skinny skinny skinny jeans, and that’s the men. It is incredibly easy to strike up a conversation with your hipster/ette of choice, undoubtedly because there are no fire marshal restriction signs posted anywhere so there are about ten people per square inch. Even though at times you feel more cramped than a smart car, Beauty Bar’s DJs keep the party roaring until closing time with blaring music ranging from the Black Eyed Peas to the Bruce Springsteen so enjoy that boom boom pow while dancing in the hipster dark.

Perhaps you’re over the dance party scene and instead you’re looking for the Euro Hipster aka someone who can wear a hooded sweatshirt and still look sophisticated. Someone who updates his facebook status with Jean-Jacques Rousseau quotes. Someone who isn’t afraid to order a crepe (there are close to 30 featured on the menu, so crepe it up). Aha…time to check out Solar de Cahuenga (1847 N. Cahuenga Boulevard, Los Angeles), a Euro-ness hipster café. Despite being a couple blocks north of flashy Hollywood Boulevard, Solar de Cahuenga has a whimsical Parisian feel to it. Bring a date or a laptop (don’t be shy to get a little geeky, in fact there are 2.21 laptops per customer) and curl up on one of the inviting floor pillows or stake out a seat in the bustling outdoor sidewalk area. If crepes aren’t your forte, offer to share some parsley French fries with that Euro femme fatale sitting solo and voila, instant hipster soiree!

If the aesthetic-flavored or Euro-inspired hipster is not for you, then consider dating the everyman’s hipster. The everyman’s hipster can be identified by two telltale signs – they possess a kickback attitude and wear regular black jeans (as opposed to skinny black jeans). Head to “The Griffin” (3000 Los Feliz Boulevard, Atwater Village) for your dose of everyman hipster. Instantly become enchanted by the cozy ski-lodge interior, as deer heads adorn the walls and fireplaces pop up intermittently. It’s a little slice of Aspen without the attitude – a must for summer 2009. Note that it takes a bit of effort to chat up these everyman hipsters; for once planted in a coveted fire-side bench they don’t dare risk leaving their prime territory. However, the layout features two separate bar areas where scores of everyman hipsters congregate so pounce on the opportunity to schmooze it up under a deer-headed ceiling (where else in LA can you do that?). Regardless of your hipster preference, go put on a fresh plaid hoodie or your fav pair of skinny black jeans and get out there. Happy hipster-ing.

The LA singles scene is like a smorgasbord of stereotypes straight out of central casting. From the aspiring actor awaiting his big break to the Hollywood hotshot holding court at Katana, Los Angeles is like a pu-pu platter of personalities, preferences and professions.

So, what do all these disparate daters have in common? Well, to put it bluntly, they’re all just a little bit crazy. You have to be to live here. Nobody would willingly put down roots in a place where it takes twenty minutes to drive two miles unless they had a little bit of the Don Quixote dreamer in them. Of course, instead of fighting windmills, we flip off film crews when they block our boulevards. And our heroic quests tend to be more about making it through lunch without eating any carbs.

But, no matter how you slice it, it’s impossible to deny the fact that you have to be a little bit batty to be an Angeleno. After all, in a place where your neighbor makes movies, your waiter wants to be in them and your trainer is probably moonlighting on Mark Burnett’s latest mega-hit, you’d be crazy if you didn’t have a little bit of the dreamer in you.

The trick, when you’re dating in LA, is to find someone whose craziness complements yours. And what better way to do that than to take your date to a museum devoted to dreamers?

That’s right, Culver City-ians, I’m talking about your very own Museum of Jurassic Technology. The museum itself defies easy characterization, with current exhibits ranging from a collection of artifacts from local mobile home parks to x-ray photos of flowers. According to its website, “the Museum preserves something of the flavor of its roots in the early days of the natural history museum - a flavor which has been described as ‘incongruity born of the overzealous spirit in the face of unfathomable phenomena.’ ”

All in all, The Museum of Jurassic Technology is a lot like crawling into David Lynch’s head, “Being John Malkovich” style. It’s a little bit crazy and a little bit kitsch – the kind of place where creaking staircases lead to musty, moth-eaten rooms, and musty, moth-eaten rooms lead to dark, damp corners. If the exhibits don’t get you, the atmosphere will.

So why does this musty maze of madness make for the perfect date? Well, it’s like I said before. Dating in LA is all about finding the one, the one person in this sprawling city whose craziness complements your own. Someone you can laugh with, and adventure with and – dare I say it - dream with. Someone who will still want to hang out with you after you wax poetic about the magical modernism of that mobile home exhibit. The Museum of Jurassic Technology is like the ultimate litmus test for looking at all of these things in your date.

And, admission is free. And so are the cookies and tea at the top of that creaking staircase. Plus, if you park in the public lots off of Culver City’s main street, you get free parking for two hours too. And, as any Angeleno knows, free parking within walking distance of your dating destination is truly the stuff that dreams are made of.

Warm night? Check. Stars twinkling in the sky? Check. Scantily clad warm weather girl? All right, steady on. How about a casually chic hot spot in the valley with a patio out front that is sure to add romance to any date. I offer you, Cafe Bizou in Sherman Oaks. With an array of candles, perfectly set lights and the warm air abounding, it is the perfect date spot for that perfect date.

A California - French menu and full-bar allow for a cozy drink before dinner before heading outside and trying their specials. If you're extra lucky, you might be offered their out of this world Lobster Tail layered over Fettuccine. Divine and as with everything at CafeBizou, reasonably priced. Stretch the dollar a bit farther at this fine dining spot with casual dining prices. Other treats to impress the date with recommending are the Lobster Ravioli, the Chicken Breast done to perfection set over mash potatoes and the Steak Au Poivre - Ask for medium-rare like any good aristocrat.

Should you wish to name drop, ask for Ryan, their astute manager or Neal, their personable Chef-Owner who started it all.

Let's face it, sometimes being an adult kind of sucks. We have bills to pay, careers to manage, obligations to keep. Sure, being an adult has its upside too -- legal drinking anyone? Sure, it's not a high end salon experience, but this particular Sam's is like that killer designer dress you got for five bucks at the local thrift store -- the store might not have had the fanciest furniture, but the dress is still a stylish steal that makes you feel like a million bucks. Which is exactly the kind of cost-benefit relationship you want when you're just looking to quickly kickstart your confidence by livening up your locks.

Of course, the equation changes when you're dealing with dating downfalls. Whether it's a breakup or a bad date, sometimes a girl whose looking for love just needs to give it to herself first. And that's where the cost benefit equation gets flipped on its frugal head. That's because the best way I know to break out of feeling bad is to treat yourself to something that makes you look and feel good. It may sound shallow, but hey, I grew up in LA, where pampering is a panacea. That's why god invented the high end salon. And thank god, Darin Birchler brought it back down to us mere mortals on budgets. For about $100, you can get a women's haircut at his Chop Chop salon with all the accoutrement us Angelenos are accustomed to in our high end hair palaces. Plus, there's art on the walls, friendly people behind the chairs and parking on the streets nearby. And if parking ain't pampering in LA, I don't know what is.

Once you beat that broken heart, it's time to get back into the boy-finding flow. Of course, you're gonna need a whole new 'do for that. That's where Anguna Salon on Robertson comes in. Antonio, the owner, does killer hair at a cutthroat price ($20 for a cut and blowdry last time I went), that's guaranteed to not only leave you ready to rock and roll but also leave you with plenty of paper to do it with. His salon might be small, but it's cozy, and Antonio wields that blowdryer like a sensai with his sword. Seriously, the man is like the hair whisperer. He turned my crazy, curly jewfro into a sleek, shiny straight 'do with more bounce than a Pantene commercial. I haven't had hair like that before or since. Which is exactly what you want your hair to be doing when you're getting your head geared up to get back into the game. Well, that and a good bikini wax.

Deciding to go Dutch is a tricky thing. And, I’m not talking about making the choice to use two jump ropes instead of one. I am, of course, talking about the practice of sharing the tab on a date. According to wikipedia, the phrase actually comes from the Netherlands, where going out in a group often means paying with separate tabs. Interestingly enough, wikipedia goes on to say that even in the Netherlands, men traditionally pay full freight on a one-on-one date.

Unfortunately, the etymological irony of the phrase isn’t even the trickiest part about the whole going Dutch thing. What’s even trickier is knowing when, and how, to employ this particular exercise in egalitarian economics. Of course, this becomes even more important when dating in a recession, where economics are everything.

Why is deciding to go Dutch so difficult? Simple. Because it involves some of the most fragile topics you should never bring up on a date – money and your mate’s ego. Two topics where the stakes seem to get even higher here in Hollywood.

When you introduce recession economics, the whole equation gets even trickier. If someone has recently lost their job, do you offer to pay their share of the bill, or do you let them cover it for fear of treading on an already downtrodden ego? If you find yourself flush with some extra cash, is it rude to expect that your down-on-his-luck date will fork out fifties for a nice night out with you? If your disposable income has, well, found itself indisposed, how do you suggest sacrificing sushi at Sasabune for sandwiches at Subway without also sacrificing your self-respect in front of your significant other? It’s enough to make a recessionista reach her breaking point.

Thankfully, one local restaurant has us down-market daters covered. Dominick’s at 8715 Beverly Blvd. in West Hollywood normally charges anywhere from $15-$50 for an entrée, making it one of those delicious dinner destinations that’s probably likely to cause some Dutch dilemmas in this day and age. Fortunately for the financially frustrated, on Sunday nights, Dominick’s does Dutch dating right with its Sunday Supper. For $15 a person you get a full and fabulous prix fixe menu, perfect for pleasing your palate without putting a damper on your dollar situation. The portions are somewhat smaller than your average American eatery, but with an appetizer, entrée and dessert, you’ll still leave fully satiated. And, isn’t it much more romantic to gaze lovingly into your date’s eyes without worrying he’ll notice that you secretly unbuttoned your pants under the table so you could fit in that final mouthful?

The restaurant has a gorgeous patio lit by lovely little lights that give everything a romantic glow. Add in a $10 bottle of their surprisingly satisfying house wine and you have a dinner that’s delicious and Dutch-friendly. Split it directly down the middle, and you’re still only paying $20 a person to enjoy an evening at an upscale eatery.

Defining romance since Shakespeare, nothing quite sets off a night more than Theatre and dinner. Los Angeles has a thriving theatre scene with a wide range of plays, musicals and comedy shows. With a wide range of theatres in Los Angeles, it's easy to find an intimate locale or one on a grand scale such as the Ahmanson or Mark Taper Forum. Although I love the magic and majesty of the large productions, to me, a small well done production can leave you as breathless as the former. The smaller productions are also a lot easier on the wallet.

It truly makes for that perfect night out... a lovely dinner, drinks and then saunter next door for some of the best theatre Los Angeles has to offer.

The music was loud, the lights were pulsing and the sweat was spilling off my back. Cool beads of condensation rolled off the plastic cup between my fingers, splattering sugary sweet soda and vodka right between the exposed pink-polished toes peeking out of my strappy black heels.

If it wasn't for the fact that even the well drinks cost upwards of $10 a pop, I could have been back at a college party. A college party where the banquets were leather, the bars were expensive hardwood and the men were actually -- well, men. Other than the polished suits and propecia'd hairlines though, the scene at J Lounge last Saturday night was your pretty typical dance party, complete with all the fine musical stylings the Black Eyed Peas have to offer.

Of course, that's not what I was expecting when I scoped the place out beforehand. After receiving an invitation to attend a birthday party there, I did the first thing any sane person would do. I googled the place. What I found was an obnoxiously vague 'downtown chic' dress code, a cigar menu and enough slideshows of cherry wood and leather to make Gordon Gekko swoon. Add that to the fact that the place was downtown, and this strictly West Hollywood hotspot hopper was officially intimidated.

But, being a good friend (and being in need of another thing to try for my 365 Days of Different), I strapped on the big girl heels, threw together my best approximation of downtown chic (a vest, a push-up bra and a pair of nice black slacks), and made my way to the corner of Olive and 11th street.

What I found when I got there was a large line, a sprawling patio of awkwardly socializing neo-yuppies and a large flight of shady looking stairs that were clearly not designed with ladies in heels in mind. Fortunately, the pain in my pinky toes proved to be totally worth it, since it turned out that the stairs actually lead to an upper level loft with sprawling city views, a packed dance floor and plenty of perches to people watch from. From the corporate kens in their suits and ties to the slinky sistahs in minidresses and maximum height heels, it was definitely a different crowd from the more laidback west la scene I usually frequent.

If my dating desires were centered around finding me a sugar daddy, I would definitely have been in the right place. But even without any desire to climb the social ladder by climbing on top of the nearest guy in Ed Hardy, I still managed to have a good time. The DJ was pretty good for what he was, the music was just loud enough to dance to without being too loud to talk over and the bathroom line wasn't nearly as bad as it looked from the outside.

All in all, it was certainly a great place for a girls' night out, not to mention the perfect place to take a date for dancing, drinking and the requisite romantic moment in front of the sparkling city skyline. I would certainly recommend it as a nice addition to your revelry repertoire. Just don't forget to specify that you want your cocktails made with well liquor -- unless of course $20 vodka tonics are your preferred way to accessorize that downtown chic ensemble of yours.

Looking for something to watch... something funny... not too long... Show her you have a sense of humor with an English twist. If you haven't heard of 'Fawlty Towers' do try to extricate yourself from the rock you have been under and get ready to laugh...hard. "Fawlty Towers" is a British sitcom made by BBC and first broadcast in 1975. Now before you cry "That's before my time!", this is timeless. The setting is in a fictional hotel called Fawlty Towers, located in the seaside town of Torquay, along the "English Riviera". Written, created and performed to perfection by the great John Cleese of 'Monty Python' fame, this is one sitcom not to be missed. Considered by many to be the greatest comedy of our time, the show blends sarcasm, biting humor and wit like no other has before and since (except maybe Seinfeld... but it's a close call).

The series focuses on the exploits and misadventures of short-fused hotelier Basil Fawlty, his wife Sybil and their employees; porter and waiter Manuel, maid Polly and chef Terry. The episodes typically revolve around Basil's efforts to succeed in 'raising the tone' of his hotel and his increasing frustration at the numerous complications and mistakes, both from his own and those of others, which prevent him doing so. Much of the humour comes from Basil's overly aggressive manner, engaging in angry but witty arguments with guests, staff and in particular his formidable wife, whom he addresses (in a faux-romantic way) with insults such as "my little piranha fish" and "my little next of vipers". At the end of some episodes, Basil succeeds in annoying (or at least bemusing) the guests and frequently gets his comeuppance.

Due to the show's popularity, DVD sets of the series are a snap to find. If you are out and about, pop into 'Best Buy' or check out 'Netflix' if you can't leave the sofa. Both are sure to have plenty of copies on hand. Episodes are a half hour each and provide that perfect opportunity to snuggle up and laugh with your date while not encroaching too much on the rest of the night. Spice up your life…or at the very least your Saturday night, with a visit to LA’s Koreatown aka K-town. While most people associate K-town with Korean barbecue and karaoke (both tantalizing treats), K-town is home to a dynamic nightlife and a little Asian fusion could be the perfect remedy for those wary of yet another night of Hollywood swinging.

The most genius discovery is that every table features a buzzer where with a simple tap waiters come sprinting (I suspect their supersonic reaction time is a result of their stealth hiding spots in back of the demi-sofas). So grab your date or your book (ahem, “UsWeekly” counts) and enjoy a very kickback evening at your Korean home away from home, Café Mak.

Looking to kick up the K-town factor a few (thousand) notches? Go glam at Gaam (3465 W. 6^th Street, Los Angeles). The Gaam parking lot alone could be a scene from "The Fast and the Furious: K-Town”, definitely the director's cut’s edition. Exotic cars and crowds pack the lot…Paul Walker come out come out wherever you are. The hustle and bustle follows you inside Gaam (sadly, Paul Walker does not) where you’re swept up with the sky high ceilings, tables upon tables of boisterous crowds and the gigantic TV screen blaring music videos. Might I suggest sipping on the sangria (imagine an alcohol version of Capri Sun aka heaven) and splurging on the $10 French fries. My Korean is not what it once was (formerly “bad”, currently “VERY bad”) although with a simple tap of your tabletop buzzer (hey, it’s a K-town thing), kindly tell one of the hundreds of waiters that you’d like the “heap of straw French Fries.” Oh yes, the “heap” is critical. Enjoy your night on the K-town at mellow Mak or glam Gaam.

From the old world ambiance, to the stage perfect lighting to the fact it is steps from my home, this is one locale very dear to my heart. Step away from the worries of the world and let owners Carmine & Kim spoil you with delightful dishes, a warm and inviting bar and all the little things that make this talian spot, irresistable.

The perfect date spot in Westside that isn't going to see you draining your 401k to leave a tip. Although not necessarily a bargain, I think you will agree, the ambiance, the food and the mood, justify the means.

Stroll in past what seems to be an Old English door to the very personable bartenders, all eager to make you feel welcome and act as though, you've just arrived home. Give a nod to bartenders, Steve and Mike and find your way into the dimly lit, romantic booths awaiting your every wish. As for appetizers you can't go wrong with any choice. The Baked Clams are lovely and the Shrimp Scampi a must have. On the entree front, I can not recommend the Filet highly enough. Cooked to perfection and laid over spinach, Pope blessed Mash Potatoes and Porcini Mushrooms, resulting in a romantic medly of their own.

Also worth mentioning is the Osso Bucco - served over Gnocci and the Chicken Pietro - layered chicken and eggplant parmesean. For after dinner, try any of their delicious, always seasonal desserts to set the night off.

You'll find me in the back corner booth, consumed in Italian heaven, fretting over how I can better serve my daters. Come over and say hello - assuming of course, I have finished my Filet.

What do you get when you mix soybeans, a swimming pool and a gorgeous, sunny Southern California day? Soggy soybeans.

On Sunday, I went with a friend to Digital Drinks -- a regular tech industry networking event. This one just so happened to be a pool party at the Pagoda Bar, which is the newly renovated pool and lounge area at the Hollywood landmark Yamashiro's. Between the gorgeous views of the city and the blinding reflection of light off of pale programmers' skin, it was hard to know where to look.

So, I looked toward the bar. Where they served perfectly put together bloody marys garnished with big green olives and -- surprisingly enough -- edamame. Although it sounds weird, the combination was actually perfectly spicy, salty and savory, and just one example of the many ways the Pagoda Bar delivers the expected SoCal summer experience with an unexpected twist.

After all, it's a pool in the Hollywood Hills. So, of course, you'd expect lots of beautiful people lounging around and waiting to be discovered by the casting crew from The Hills. But, in fact, the crowd was surprisingly laid back, tossing around inflatable pool toys and tossing back cocktails with a kind of ease rarely seen around public pools this side of Vegas. With sliders smoking on the grill, the DJ spinning up above and plenty of cushions scattered conveniently around the water's edge, you'd almost think you were barbecuing in someone's backyard. Except, of course, for the added challenge of trying to protect your purse while playing in the pool.

Other than that though, it was a perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. Very Hollywood, and yet, at the same time, refreshingly not so. With its sweeping views and secluded cabana hideaways, I could also see it making a great date destination, particularly for a couple looking to have a little fun in the late-summer sun.

After all, it certainly cemented my relationship with Ms. Bloody Mary.

The Strand is a three mile (you can make it a little longer or a little less depending on how conscious you are post- House of Pies sugar smackdown) oceanside walk path lining Manhattan Beach’s toniest homes…uh I meant MEGA toniest homes. Prime time at the Strand tends to be around 3pmish and later aka when the stock market closes and stock brokers pound the pavement in their pumas. Park in one of Manhattan’s metered lots adjacent to Manhattan Beach Boulevard or in front of the Manhattan Pier and walk off your heartache…and heartburn. You can recharge while heading north towards El Porto or south towards Hermosa Beach, and while both offer stunning views (of the ocean….although equally stunning views of parked Bentleys), the Hermosa Beach section of the Strand tends to be livelier.

Warning: some Strand-walkers have been known to make a detour to the rowdy Hermosa Pier to hydrate themselves…with Corona. See, exercise is fun. The only thing I would recommend (besides a sun-shielding Dodgers cap, for my fellow Snow Whites – bronze beauties may disregard this suggestion) is to bring a dog on your Strand stroll. Whether it’s a friend’s dog, a stuffed dog or even a robotic dog (arguably the most difficult dog of all to take care of), nothing promotes impromptu Strand convos than a leashed canine. Jogging hedge fund managers trip over each other (they travel in packs) to chat up girls with a pup in tow. There can be absolutely no canine substitutions, I once tried bringing a gigapet with zero success. Perhaps it was Comic-Con weekend.

Thank you for your interesting question. I would like to know more details, such as how long you have been dating and what you mean exactly by “moving the relationship on”. However, I think in most instances, this is a tough one if only one side wants to nudge along. If for example, you have been dating a while and you would like to move in together, this can be tackled in a gentle way. You can get a good read on him, if this is what your intentions are, by staying over more often, leaving things of yours at his place and of course, doing the ‘pop-in’ far more frequently! This should start to give you a good barometer reading on where he thinks you guys are heading. If he starts to neatly keep all your things together in a box by his front door, protests that suddenly he has to start getting up early for work or answering his door less and less it could be that you are pointing north and he’s pointing south, my dear. Thank you for your great question, I get asked this one all the time! Most people are nervous the first time they do anything and speed dating is no exception. My best advice to you is just to be you. There is nothing that you can do wrong, there are no wrong answers. The absolute worst possible scenario is that you do not feel that “click”. Chances are it’s mutual, so who cares? In a few minutes you’ll be on to the next potential date-mate! Ask questions that you genuinely care to hear the answer to, not general, predictable questions. Listen to the answers you hear as opposed to waiting to ask your next question. If you really listen, you can start a good conversation within a minute. Some people tend to get into ‘interview’ mode and panic about the time that is ticking away. The first thing you must do is tell your sister. The longer it goes on, the more you will hurt her in the long run. The worst part is surely not that you are seeing someone from her past but that you could not tell her? If she really liked this guy, something would have come of the relationship in the first place. I am sure she will understand and wish you guys nothing but the best… just don’t wait much longer in telling her what’s going on!

I'm sure you have all heard of or even been to the fabulously fabulous, Geisha House in Hollywood. For those that haven't or haven't a clue what Geisha House is, remove yourself from under the rock you have been under and get ready tatantalizeyour senses. While most sushi restaurants tend to ignore or hide from Japan's rich sexual history...Geisha House embraces it. A feast for the eyes, the soul and of course, your taste buds. Brought to you by the famed Dolce Group comes this sensual hot spot that has both the stars and those who set the trend for the stars, in a Japanese tizzy.

Many find our events at Geisha House a lovely opportunity to bypass the front desk, any Hollywood attitude and enjoy the best the venue has to offer. And - oh yeah... find love while their at it. We consider ourselves quite fortunate to be invited to Geisha House to host our events and truly can not say enough wonderful things... but I'll try anyway.

Starting downstairs you enter through a red-painted wood hallway, arriving at a full-length mirror--a not-so-subtle hint at the see-and-be-seen posing to come. Inside, the prominent main bar's white-grid-enclosed plasma screens are a focal point from every vantage point. Further back, a three-tiered fireplace anchors the main dining room, which is lined with kimono-like swatches and a twig-enclosed private booth. My personal favorite part of the restaurant is upstairs in the Moon Room. Dreamy in the summer months and wintertime chic, relaxing under the heaters, the rest of the year. Although considering it's always LA summertime, I think you'll find it equally stunning any time of year.

I typically like to mention a few of my menu favorites, but quite honestly I can't pick a favorite. Their sushi is always in top form, their entree's as good as you would expect and the drinks... ahh... the drinks... are always just what the doctor ordered. The Shikomi cocktail is like a decadent spa beverage, with sake, midori, lemon and cucumber. Too many of those, and I assure you, the reflection in the above mentioned mirror will be quite different.

The valet can be a bit pricey on busy nights--save a few dollars by using the lot directly across the street on Cherokee.

In case you've been living under a rock, there's a little something called The Olympics going on right now. You know, that thing with all the pomp, circumstance and figure skating? Well, it's happening, whether you're watching or not. And, regardless of your personal interest - or lack thereof - in the great sport of curling, you can still inject some gold medal-worthy fun into your love life.

Figure Skating
So, you love sparkles, sequins and spinning around on a few inches of ice? Then figure skating is clearly the sport for you. Lucky for you, there are plenty of local places to take your beau for some blades of glory fun. Tutu and tight bodysuit not required. Pasadena has the gorgeous, state of the art Pasadena Ice Skating Center, where you can take classes, join a Freestyle skating session or even sign up for some hardcore broomball. Olympic skater Miri Nagasu even started her career in this huge facility, located in the heart of Pasadena. Although nobody will hold it against you if you're not exactly up to her level.

In Culver City, kitsch is the name of the game, at the historic Culver Ice Arena, where pickup hockey games, open skating sessions and a vintage vibe make it the perfect place for a more low-key skating experience. And, in the valley, you can check out Iceland Ice Skating Center in Van Nuys, home of the perfect date activity - bumper cars on ice. And what's better than the opportunity to show off your driving skills and your ability to come up with witty puns involving 'bumping' all in the same date?

Skiing & Snowboarding
Okay, so you don't want to go all the way to the snow. Well, how about some virtual snowsports instead? For about $20 onAmazon, you can buy We Ski for the Nintendo Wii, which lets you ski and snowboard your way to victory all within the warmth and comfort of your very own living room. Hey, did you know there are two whole hockey teams in the LA area? We've got the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. Yeah, those Ducks. Although, I don't think Joshua Jackson is playing for them anymore, you can still check them out any time during their season, which runs well into April. Both the Ducks and the Kings have totally affordable tickets that start at less than $20 and often come in packages that include perks like hot dogs, sodas and more. Even if you're not that into hockey, you can't really turn down a date night that involves watching hot, sweaty men duking it out on the ice and comes with hot dogs included, can you? Sounds like a gold medal night to me.
